In order for the world to
share your destination, you need a home on the Internet.
You need a hosting solution that will meet your need and
allow you to grow.
First: Let's look at the various hosting
options.
If you search on Google for website hosting, you will get over 267 million pages of responses. The number of hosting companies is staggering! You can spend hours sifting through the details looking for the best solution.
My advice: Find someone you trust and ask them who they are using and if they are satisfied. I have used over five different hosting companies and have two that I recommend regularly to family and friends.
Here is what I look for in a good hosting company:
cpanel
server size
bandwidth
reliability
customer service
cost
number of domains
fantastico

NOTE: Many of you are going to want to know about free sites. There are several options for free web sites. Just remember, when anything is free, there is usually a down side. If you are wanting a personal site to share with family and friends with minimal expense, free is fine. If you are wanting to start a business and establish credibility, I would recommend your own domain name with a paid hosting service. One free site we have used for the kids is
FreeWebs
Step 2: Set up the DNS

There are several FTP programs. I am just going to list a couple of the free ones:
FTP is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. You will use this skill quite a bit.
